...Lets see, what else?  I live in a small women's college town here in Texas.  Denton by name.  Just a bit north of Dallas. (Don't judge us by that horrible soap opera!)  For a while longer anyways, planning on moving.  Though I'll miss hanging out at Brick Haus.     I've been up here in the Dallas area for about 12 years or so now.  Came up here back then to go to DeVry (long story) but ran out of money along the way. (among other things, another long story)

I was born in Houston, Texas and lived in that area of my life.  Lived in Houston, Baytown, Humble, Willis and Mont Belvieu.  For a short while I lived in Loveland Colorado when I was a child.  I miss the snow!

I'm an avid reader and love sci-fi and fantasy books.  I also like to read classics once in a while and have an extensive collection. I like to book scout for first edition books that are worth money.  I'm funny about how I do my scouting though.  I won't buy a valuable book if whoever is selling it knows what it's worth.  That is NO fun!!  I like to hit garage sales, used book stores, Goodwill and other such places where I can find them cheap!

I used to run a BBS, which is different than what most of you are probably thinking about unless you've been using a modem for a long time!  A BBS, or Bulletin Board System, was something that was around and being used before the internet became popular.  It's software that runs on a computer, typically in someone's house, that has message areas, file area and online games on it. The owner, or SysOp, system operator, usually would run it for fun, sometimes for profit though.  The phone number would be spread around and people like me or you could call up for 30 minutes or an hour a day (depending on what the SysOp figured was fair) and you could play in these areas.  Sometimes if the person running the system had two phone lines in the computer you could chat with other users!  Wow! heehee :)

The reason the time was limited was because there was usually only one phone line and to give other users a chance to call in every day.  If they sysop really liked you (or you kissed ass) you could get more time online.

At my peak before the web became popular I was a member of FidoNet and a few other smaller nets (networks that exchanged files and messages) and had quite a bit of both on my bbs.  15 CD ROM's installed on the system!  (not much now in the day of HUGE hard drives but back then it was a LOT of space!)  I started out running the bbs on DOS, then switched it to Windows 3.1, which sucked (windows still sucks!).  Then I switch to OS/2 which was, and is, the most stable operating system that I've EVER run!  At one time I had gone 8 months without a crash or restarting the system!  Even Windows NT, which I have on one of my computers here at the house, isn't that stable!

I finally gave it up after the callers started to drop off.  I miss it.  I miss the close knit group of people and users that called in.  Sometimes we would get together for coffee or dinner and such.  LOTS of fun!

Other than the mostly boring topics above I live an otherwise quiet and boring life.  Hey, don't most of us? ...but if I can think of anything else, or make up something good to entertain you then I'll add it here!
