Ok, lets start putting it all together! The antenna wire is in place here and since the Talkie already has a 9 volt battery plug built in I'm going to take mine off the board and use this one.
Here the board is tucked in nicely! I'm going to have to put some tape between the crystal and the antenna connector and maybe some between the crystal and those two caps right next to it just to be safe. I've used all red wire for my other connectors so I've twisted the + leads into little Z's at the ends to keep things straight in my head!
Here you can see why I'm having to put some tape in there. The crystal is just too close to too many things for my taste! :)
In this shot I've FINALLY gotten all of the wires soldiered up and taped properly! Im shaping the wires around things a bit and hopefully everything will go together! Almost there!
Just a different angle. On the bottom unit in the upper left hand of the unit is the Morse switch. Just a bit to the right of it is the Power switch. To the far right next to the speaker is the External speaker jack. That chunck of PCB board in the middle is where the built in Key is.
Here is another open shot. Obviously I posted some of these out of order since the speaker wires aren't connected on this one. heh. The original 'guts' of the radio are off to the right side there. :)
and finally........
Ready for action!! Yipee :) I put some labels on it too.
Also put the Freq on the side so I wouldn't forget, lol.
Another view without the earplug in it.
Tada!! And there you have it! I plugged everything in and turned it on! It didn't smoke! :):) Don't know how well it works since I don't have an antenna tuner that will tune that low power and I'll have to wait till more 'normal' hours to see if I can hear anything out there since I"m working on this in the middle of the night :)
An external speaker worked ok in it but it would have to be a VERY quiet room. I'll stick to the ear plug! When I do some modifications on the radio later a Sidetone is a MUST! :)
Well this was a very fun project!! I can't wait to start on another project already :) I hope that you have as much fun putting your Pixie together!
